Brian Wong and GTChannel announced a partnership for the prestigious K&N East series as part of the NASCAR Sprint Cup last weekend. With experience in various series such as Porsche Cup races, ARCA and ALMS, Wong had been busy racing this summer in Lamborghinis and rallycrossing in the Redbull Global Rallycross Lite series.  This was a great chance for Brian to show off his road course driving skills in the NASCAR owned developmental series and also an opportunity for GTChannel to bring something a little different to the sport.

Returning to the K&N Pro Series East after a two year absence, Brian teamed up with MDM Hillman Racing a well-known NASCAR team with efforts in both the premier Sprint Cup Series and K&N Pro Series.

Brian started out strong but unfortunately was unable to demonstrate his ablities during Friday's star-filled round due to a surprise engine blow on lap 15 during the race.

Although on-track results were not as positivie as anyone had wished for GTChannel hopes to team up with Brian again in future events.

Engine Woes Curtail Strong Drive from Brian Wong at Watkins Glen
WATKINS GLEN, NY (August 12, 2015) – Returning after a near two-year absence from the NASCAR owned K&N Pro Series East, World Stage Racing’s Brian Wong was unable to demonstrate his abilities during Friday’s star-filled round due to engine issues.
“It’s disappointing because I think we had a real shot at a top ten or possibly even a top five,” stated Wong. “Regardless, it was great to get back to action in a stock car, and I’m very thankful to everyone for giving me the opportunity. We had a really cool opportunity with GT Channel to bring something a little different to the sport, and I’m very happy to have been a part of it.”

Driving the No. 40 machine from MDM Hillman racing, a well-known NASCAR team with efforts in both the premier Sprint Cup Series as well as K&N Pro Series, Wong came into the day during what has been a busy summer for the 26-year-old. Driving everything from Lamborghini’s in June to most recently a Global Rallycross machine just two weeks ago, the Chinese American has been gaining valuable seat time in anticipation of a stock car focus over the next few weeks.
With the K&N Pro Series East division serving a one-day show on Friday as a supporting event to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series’ CHEEZ-IT 355 at the famed Watkins Glen road course, Wong, the first Chinese-American to score a podium in ARCA competition, came into the event with high hopes. Known as a road course specialist, including scoring second in ARCA competition at a road course one year earlier, as well as multiple podiums in the American Le Mans Series, the Californian was seen as a quiet contender for Friday’s race.
Unfortunately, endless run-ins with lap traffic and acclimation to the nature of the field would prove challenging during the brief practice and qualifying runs with Brian starting from the eighth row for the afternoon’s race.
Making a strong start, Wong would show promise as he focused on the field in front of him looking to gain ground only for a surprise on lap 15 as his engine expired. With no warning or sense that it was coming, Brian was left with no choice but to limp to a stop as his day was ended before ever getting a chance to demonstrate his potential. He would be credited with 22nd.

While his on-track exploits were not as positive as anyone had hoped, the team’s partnership with the well-known YouTube brand, GT Channel, proved very successful for both Wong and World Stage Racing. With a core focus on engaging a diverse, digitally-engaged millennial audience, GT Channel’s reach among car enthusiasts and sports car lovers provided proof of the team’s “out of the box” thinking when it comes to stock car racing and beyond, as demonstrated by the effort.
With the busy summer season continuing, both Wong and World Stage Racing will have additional announcements on his racing ventures shortly.
