SUBARU INTRODUCES ITS TOP-END HIGH-PERFORMANCE SPORTS CAR
Subaru’s WRX line turns 25 years old this year, and they celebrated the occasion by debuting the very limited-edition S208 WRX STI at this year’s Tokyo Motor Show. This is the most powerful and stylish offering ever from Subaru Technica International.
With a modified engine, suspension and exclusive exterior and interior features, the S208 is sure to turn heads. The sleek carbon-fiber roof will make the car lighter in weight and give it a lower center of gravity while racy Recaro seats spice up the interior. The engine’s 324 horsepower and 319 lb.-ft. of torque prove these guys mean business.
The S208 smiles with a redesigned front fascia that includes a new mesh grille and front under-spoiler. The side profile includes side skirts with satin-finish door mirrors. Things get wrapped up behind with a new rear bumper with air vents and a large carbon-fiber rear spoiler with the STI logo.
DampMatic II front suspension and adjustable Bilstein dampers holds this ride together while rolling on 19-in. aluminum BBS wheels shod with 255/35R-19 tires.
The S208 will be available in three paint schemes: WR Blue Pearl, Crystal White Pearl and Cool Grey Khaki Edition, which is only available in the NBR Challenge Edition that pays homage to Subaru’s performance at the 24-Hours of Nürburgring.
This limited edition rocket will not come cheap. The base price for the S208 will come in at $51,000 and $58,000 for the NBR Edition. But even if you stashed away enough cheddar to buy one of these bad boys, the bad news is that Subaru will only produce 450 units exclusively for the Japan market. Because of the expected high demand, a lottery system will be used to determine the lucky drivers who get to take these babies home. Although though we will not get them here in the U.S., Subaru will introduce a similar, toned-down American version called the WRX STI Type RA.
