Heck, you even found time to get some housework done and finally got around to putting up those curtains you bought like two months ago at Target that have just been sitting in the bag this whole time. We know that’s weirdly specific but we’d bet that applies to at least one of you reading this.

Here’s the thing. While you may have been getting all that stuff done, you might have fallen a bit behind on your car culture news.

That’s why we’re here. We’re going to get you all caught up on the stuff you missed out on last week so that you can go into this week with everything you need to know so that your buds on the group chat won’t think you fell off.

2022 Toyota GR 86 revealed

Toyota finally revealed the new look and new name of the next 86. No longer called the “GT86”, the new GR 86 is an evolution of the previous model. We suspect that the name change was done to bring the car in line with the GR Supra. Outside the GR 86 is more smoothed over than the last model but still has aggressive styling cues where it counts like the massive front air dam and widened fenders. Mechanically the GR 86 is mostly the same and there is unfortunately no turbocharger to speak of. However, the engine displacement has been increased from 2.0 liters to 2.4 liters. The bigger engine should end itself to a faster 0-60 time and a bump in horsepower. Though no official numbers have been released by Toyota as of the writing of this article.

The GR 86 is slated to go on sale in Japan by the end of 2021 which means it likely won’t hit the U.S. market until 2022 so there is still a bit of a wait ahead. In the meantime, let us know what you think of it!

The Smoking Tire reviews the $500k 2021 Ferrari 812 GTS

Last week, friend of GTChannel and occasional Podspeed guest Matt Farah of The Smoking Tire spent a whole day with the brand new Ferrari 812 GTS. The 812 GTS is the car Ferrari made for people who want hypercar performance but also want to put the top down on a nice day. Yes, this car is a convertible. It also has a 6.5 liter, front-mounted V12 engine that makes 789 horsepower and 530 ft-lbs of torque. The 812 GTS will hit 60mph in under 3 seconds which is more than fast enough to dry your hair with the top down after a swim. Though, we suppose that isn’t much of a benefit for Matt Farah. Anyway, Farrah got to have the time of his life as he carved the canons in Ferrari’s latest super convertible. You’ll definitely want to watch!

Super rare Toyota Celica GT-FOUR RC for sale.

No one appreciates a JDM “unicorn” car more than us. So, you can imagine how blown away we were when we saw that a genuine 1991 Toyota Celica GT-FOUR RC is currently for sale right now, right here, in the U.S. For those who don’t know, the Toyota Celica GT-FOUR is a turbocharged, all-wheel-drive version of the Celica sold in the early 90s when Toyota was kicking butt in WRC. The car was sold as the Celica “All trac” in America. The Celica GT-FOUR RC is a super limited variant of the standard GT-FOUR with a few tweaks and performance improvements. The GT-FOUR RC is what’s known as a “homologation special” which means Toyota only built a limited number of them to satisfy the WRC rules about only racing cars that a brand actually sells. Only 5,000 cars were made in total and a pristine example is available for sale through our friends at TopRank Importers. They don’t just sell GT-Rs people! The Hoonigans check out Chris Forsberg’s 1,300HP Nissan Altima sedan drift car

What happens when you give a three-time Formula Drift champion a brand new sedan, lots of time, and a fair amount of money? You get one of the cleanest, most powerful drift cars ever made that isn’t actually legal for competition. At least that’s what you get when that champion is Chris Forsberg. Forsberg took the new 2021 Nissan Altima and built a completely custom tube-chassis for it then went absolutely H.A.M. on a GT-R-derived V6 engine to create a “drift taxi” with over 1,300 horsepower. It also has a crazy widebody kit and a very cool Valvoline livery. Unfortunately due to its tube chassis, the car isn’t legal for official Formula Drift competition. The good news is that since it isn’t a competition car, Chris can shed it anywhere he wants. For example he brought his latest project to the Hoonigan’s new facility and helped them “break it in'' so to speak. Check out the video and thank us later!
