Before taking a Tesla Model 3 out on the track from some drift action, host Gary King and driving instructor Edward Nagao-Itano first stop at Andy's Tires for new shoes.

Instructor Edward Nagao-Itano takes (host name) for some Tesla sliding around the open course. But it turns out that the 275mm wide tires may not have been the best choice for trying to break the heavy Tesla loose. After a couple of laps they tires get hot enough to start flexing and breaking grip but not without considerable effort from Mr. Nagao-Itano behind the wheel.

Drifting A Tesla: Wider Tires Have Too Much Grip

That was quick. Three and out for the tires. A heavy Tesla takes a heavy toll on grip, and at least one of the tires proved unfit for the task. Given what was asked of the rubber however — high-load changes of direction from a 4,000-plus pound car — it's not a complete surprise.
