Round One of the 2020 Formula Drift season kicks off in St. Louis. Dai and a skeleton crew make the trek and find an atmosphere that's slightly different with COVID restrictions in place, but no less exciting for the drivers. Everyone, Dai especially, just want to get on the track and start whipping turns.

Formula Drift Round 1: Back Behind The Wheel With Dai Yoshihara

Things never go to plan, do they? Dai's excitement about finally getting out on the track is tempered when a downtube on the exhaust manifold cracks shortly into the practice round. The crew swiftly gets to welding the break, but Dai misses the rest of the practice session. With practice rounds limited this season, he'll need to work out any other kinks during the final short practice session on race day.

Formula Drift Round 1: Return To Track, Return To Troubleshooting

When it rains, it dumps. A cracked manifold cut Dai's earlier practice session short. Now on race day, assorted other gremlins - electrical, suspension - rear their heads and cut Dai's short race day practice session even shorter. He'll have to go out into the full race session with only a basic understanding of the track and his own car's setup.

Formula Drift Round 1: More Troubles On Race Day

Dai goes up against Falken Tire teammate Aurimas "Odi" Bakchis in the day's Top 16 battle. Dai and Odi know each other's styles well from tuning and tire testing together. Will that knowledge come in handy for either driver as they chase a podium finish?

Same track, new round. Formula D's adjusted season schedule means two rounds in one location. With some rough luck in the "first" round just a day before, Dai goes up against Brazilian driver Joao Barion to get things started in round two.

Last day in St. Louis is like Groundhog Day for Dai. Like the day before, he's facing Falken Tire teammate Aurimas "Odi" Bakchis in a Top 16 battle. A mystery issue, possibly a misaligned axle or steering issue related to damage the car sustained the day before, makes it a tough race for Dai.
