This right-hand-drive 180SX chassis originally came with ABS power braking, but this donor car will get US-market Nissan parts, including brake booster and master cylinder. Custom brake lines will make it work with the packaging and clearances of the RB engine swap.

The Nissan S-chassis (S13/S14) is a good platform for multiple donor engines, including Toyota's legendary 2JZ, GM's LS eight-cylinders, Nissan's own SR turbo four-cylinder, and even Honda's K Series. The Cool Runnings crew wanted to do a tried-and trusted RB25 engine swap from a Skyline GTS-T  (R33) donor car for a few different reasons, but especially since both engine and chassis were set up for right-hand drive. Plus, Gary just loves Skylines.

The steering shaft on this 180SX project has extended out of its housing, making it easier to replace the bushing between two segments of the shaft. The solid replacement bushing for this project will come from Nissan specialist GKTECH.

The fellas debate whether they should sandblast, then spray-paint or powdercoat  the intake manifold. Or maybe just polish and call it a day. Emotions run high on both sides of the argument.

Pulling the intake manifold and various caps and lines yields a few surprises. Some leftover coolant isn't too unusual, but the sludgy orange substance filling one of the runners is pretty suspect. Did someone punk this car with Spaghetti O's? With the manifold removed, it's easier to visualize where to run new lines, oil filter adapter, and the components necessary for an oil cooler.

Old parts out, new parts from ISR Performance on the way. Buying a used Nissan RB engine — one used by a pro drift driver, no less — is risky, but this RB25 and its turbo look to be in decent shape. Even the clutch still has life in it.
