Racing in Formula Drift and challenging Pikes Peak isn’t time-consuming enough, so driver Dai Yoshihara found a side project to keep him even busier: A classic Mercedes 190E build inspired by German touring car racing and powered by a Honda S2000 engine. Spoiler alert: original parts are hard to find.

Drifter Dai Builds DTM-Inspired Benz 190E With Honda Heart

Every project goes down to the wire, even at the highest levels of racing. Unsurprisingly, Dai’s 190E build was a four-day frenzy until its launch event. It’s hard to argue with the hardware: KW coilovers, Titan7 original 190E replica wheels, Falken tires, and even a donor car for scavenging parts.

Mercedes/S2000 Mashup: Dai’s Benz Blends The Best

Dai and friends Chris Marion and Chris Eimer got the Benz 190E built in between two rounds of Formula D, holidays, and whatever spare hours were left. The original 2.3-liter four-cylinder would cost too much to rebuild, with parts impossible to find, so a Honda 2.2-liter S2000 engine found its place instead.
